The Ming Tombs PostcardsLocated on the south slopes of the Hundu Mountain in the north suburbs of Beijing, the Ming Tombs cover an area of 40 square kilometers. The tombs of 13 emperors of the Ming dynasty are scattered in this area, making it the most world-famous imperial cemetery. The construction of these tombs started in 1409, the 7th year during Emperor Yongle's reign, lasting for more than 200 years, during which 13 tombs were built one after another. Also buried in the tombs in this area are 23 empresses, one highest-ranking imperial concubine as well as 7 other imperial concubines. ![]() ![]()
