Object name Necklace Vortex around Castle Rock
Caption A light dusting of snow illustrates perfectly the necklace vortex created when wind must travel around an obstacle sticking up from a surface. Mt. Erebus in the background is 23 miles away. Castle Rock, the obstacle, is a small volcanic crater 1,350 feet high and 2 miles away.
