| Caption | The LC-130 is the polar version of the C-130 cargo plane and is the workhorse of the Antarctic. Its ski-equipped landing gear allows operation on snow or ice surfaces throughout Antarctica — anywhere that is flat enough and large enough for landings. It also has wheels for landing on prepared hard surfaces. Those used for the United States Antarctic Program are operated by the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing, based in Schenectady, NY. |
